Pilot training. Recognition of hypoxia

November 29, 2008

The FAA test their 30,000′ altitude simulating enclosure. This breakthough system, developed by Colorado Altitude Training (CAT) creates a stable, controlled simulated altitude by reducing the oxygen content so the partial pressure of oxygen is the same as would be experienced at an elevation of up to 30,000′. Unlike a hypobaric chamber, this normobaric hypoxic system does not involve any pressure change so avoids any risk of decompression sickness. Test subjects can simply enter or exit at will, .. many times in a row if they wish. There are numerous other advantages of this system compared with a hypobaric chamber, including cost, convenience and safety. Plus it’s a whole lot more pleasant to use than being locked into a low-pressure vault!

do i have to have strobe lights when flying at night in my cessna 172?

November 25, 2008

so i am going to be doing some night flying this friday…something i have not done in about 6 months. i know one of the cessna 172’s i rented had strobes and we used them. but the plane i have rented for this friday does not have strobes (it too is a cessna 172). do i have to have them on for flying at night?

I’m sure there are more appropriate resources for the answer to this question. I’d start with your FAR/AIM.
