    It is a public …
It is a public airport. They cannot prohibit anyone from landing there.

Cool video…I’ve made the same trip in a 172 twice and a Cherokee 140 once. To keep us in the traffic flow, we departed from 27R on the way out. It is something else to have nearly 12,000′ of runway stretched out in front of you in something that small.

Landing fee? Just ask the tower to taxi straight back to the departure runway. If you don’t go to the FBO, they don’t ess the fee.

    I Wouldn’t have the …
I Wouldn’t have the guts to do that. I get stressed just being in a pattern with more than 3 other aircraft, let alone flying in crowded airspace with massive commercial aircraft all over the place. Look kind of fun though! Nice big runway.

    Good job, and I …
Good job, and I must say very bold, I cant see myself flying in or too far into ATL airspace, I tie down in Snellville, GA I just cant see how they let you land in the middle of the day, I would love to try it, give me the time and day and the hook up to the big boss in charge…lol

    can you say o …
can you say o wake turbulence? and also o landing fee?

  10. dodgemotorsports on June 17th, 2009 12:46 am

    Why would they not …
Why would they not let a GA aircraft land there? The only reason a commercial jet gets better treatment from ATC is because they fly IFR. Thats like saying a city bus is more important than a person driving his own car.

    I was always told …
I was always told general avaition aircraft were not allowed to land at Hartsfield.

  12. AmericanGi370 on June 17th, 2009 12:46 am

    Well there could be …
Well there could be a reason for that. What are you flying, How high are you, are you flying VFR or IFR?

  13. fishercollin on June 17th, 2009 12:46 am

    I’ve always been …
I’ve always been told you can add 10 degrees of flaps below 110 knots, this will also help you to slow down a bit!

  14. SRMeadows on June 17th, 2009 12:46 am

    Keep the power at …
Keep the power at 2200 rpm, pitch for 500fpm decent, this will put you at 130kts or so. Cut the power at about 300 ft, wait for the airspeed to bleed off below the white arc, add flaps as necessary. Will float a little on flare, but not too much.

Not as fast as an airliner, but better than the normal approach speed (65-75 kts).

Done this several times when landing at a large/busy airports.

    i wonder how …
    wow

i wonder how many go arounds you would have caused if it were the buisy peak of the day

  17. skreetracingmr2 on June 17th, 2009 12:46 am

    You must not know …
You must not know about how ATC works, Not one prob for them. landing at 120 knots the C172 is real maneverable. Getting it to slow down is another story. We work at ATL so we did it at the right time and day. No delay for us.

  18. yazzam on June 17th, 2009 12:46 am

    wow. I’d be scared …
wow. I’d be scared to land there in a little cessna. Theres just too much large traffic around ATL. I think that this only creates problems for ATC. I know it legal but think about it, even though the 172 will be less maneuverable at some points than a large jet, the problem created for the pilots of the large jet for having to go around or what not will be much more significant. It definitely creates problems. The C172 is just too slow compared to the other guys

  22. Jokester185 on June 17th, 2009 12:46 am

    why did they even …
why did they even let you do this, it seems like it would cause traffic problems for the airplanes
