How long would it take to get a licence to fly a Cessna Skyhawk?
October 17, 2009
I plan on after I leave school to go to flying school, so how long would it take to get a licence for a cessna skyhawk?
and how much does a new one cost?
I soloed, and got a "student" ticket in less than 2 weeks of lessons after school.

Got something to say?
You will need a Private Pilot Certificate which requires that you have 35 or 40 hours of flight time, depending on the type of school, and you must also have ground training and pass a written test. The ground training can probably be done in less than a month, if you are a fast learner, and have a lot of time to spend. The flight training, which will usually amount to more like 50 hours, can be done in as little as a couple of weeks, but should probably be spread out over a month or more. This assumes that you have the 8K or more to spend all at one time. Most people who are not pursuing a career will spend several months. BTW, when you are finished, you will be able to carry passengers, but not for hire.
I believe that a new Skyhawk is now close to 250K, if not more.

In the US, you will need 40 total hours of logged flight time minimum. Most student pilots will go over this flight time. If you add up the study materials, aircraft rental/fuel, flight school fees, instructor fees, AME, written exam and check ride fees, I would say close to around $8,500 or so. It can take a couple of months to 6 months depending on how fast you learn and take lessons, and on the weather in your area.
A new C172 can cost upwards of $290,000.00.

Student Pilot
It is possible for a student to go from zero to Private Pilot in as little as three weeks. I’ve trained several such students. For an average student it usually takes a couple months to a year depending on how often they fly. The cost of earning the PPL ranges from about $7,500 to $15,000 in the USA, depending on where you do it. The cost of a brand new C-172 is approximately $250,000 depending on how it is equipped. One that is 40 years old and in reasonably good condition can cost as little as 1/10th that much. Everythi9ng else falls between those two extremes.
