Lomadawa is spiritual, a positive lyricist & with the Movement. The Movement of Indigenous Injustice. His recent appearance at Hopi High for the Revolt Against Violence speaks for itself. His fight for Peabody Coal & Save the Peaks to name but a few. His many visits to Elementary schools on the importance of Education. He definantly is not a thug. Our granfather and ancestors before us are not thugs, they wear headbands as they go out to tend the fields. Peace…
ghgh
That’s funny , the elders I know personally , wear suits and fly to D.C all the time for AIM/ARM issues and rights on reservations. The AIM you describe sounds like the founding group 20+ years ago with the Lakota. I am speaking of Hopi and Denai (navajo) elders and rez’es and youth only where Casper is from and has a following of troubled youth that dress like inner city gang members…..go to a REZ show, then talk….(Hopi rez)
I fear you have confused reality with a Val Kimer Rez movie. F/m many elders I knew regarded AIM as thugs, and a bad influence on ‘traditional youth’
seems someone may have confused the movie starring Val Kilmer as an indian, with reality. F/m most elders I knew, right or wrong, considered AIM to be thugs and bad influence pulling the youth away from the traditional culture.
Casper and the 602s came to our Middle School in Fort Collins Colorado. they’ve got soul. they got the whole school on thier feet rockin out and moshing
AIM….ARM after the 80’s
IGNORANCE….no one is hating …lol
People be needing some hater-ade….boo!
what is ARM????…isn’t it AIM?? the American Indian Movement??…isn’t reggae about the struggle…listen to ALL his lyrics…cause if you have EVER listened to all his songs…you would know he is straight up native…message me back when you have listened to ALL his songs/lyrics…cause you don’t even know who he is or what he is about from this one video
what is ARM???…it’s AIM…right???
Never mistake my brother…for anything but a good native man…and he portrays it through his music…and lyrics…it’s not about the clothes…it’s about the lyrics….straight up…from a true native woman…i enjoy his music…every day..all the time…don’t care how he dresses…
Big up Casper..all the way from Apache Land!!..
bbiigg uupp!
I am a resident of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. This is a great example of culture differences. Reggae is a Caribbean tradition. Our Reggae bands are certainly NOT thugs nor are those of us who go to hear them. Our young people enjoy the music of their culture, just as the Hopi people enjoy their culture and music. If trouble occurs it is not about the music. Keeping our traditional cultures alive and thriving is extremely important, but so is respect for other cultures.
. I new many elders and members of arm , and this scene was a very sad one to them as well (their youth dressing like La gang members like a fad) Going further and further from traditional ways! …(.gangster image). the kids think it’s cool , not the image anyone should portray especially when your not one…95 show steel pulse res..
I know Casper, and those so-called ‘thugs’ know him too, and they & I know his words and behavior are righteous. Would you rather they checked out & emulated 50 Cent? If he’s a b-boy, he’s sure a spiritual one. One day on tour, he spent all day alone in solitude praying for his grandfather to recover from illness. Does that sound like a thug?? Quit judging on appearances; look to the inner person and you won’t keep generalizing and writing off an entire generation of youth!
despite how HE is , it is the image he represents (inner city thug) and the crowd he had was the same (on the rez) .last place anyone would want that image. You say you toured with him you wouldn’t happen to know stumpa do ya?
……… Have ever took time and listen to his lyrics, like telling the youth to stay in school, get an education, stop gangbanging? Most likely not by the comments you’re making. Maybe you should take a bit of time and learn more about the life on the res and why there’s such a high # of kids become thugs instead of standing outside the fence and cast judgements. Your mentality is what’s a bummer, Sir!
Regards,
Casper’s longtime friend and drummer.
Dear drhaley1,
Just because Casper wears a bandana on his head doesn’t make him a ‘thug’. I’ve known, recorded and played/toured with Casper, including the 2000 Roots Revolution in Montana that someone pointed out below, for the last 12 yrs. Many of them on res around the country. I can tell you that he’s as far removed from a ‘thug’ and down to earth as one can possibly be…………..
