I agree on the analogue gauges.
While yes – the G1000 maybe practical in so many ways – you’re not flying an aircraft, you’re flying a computer, and to me that takes away so much enjoyment from flying.
The analogue cockpits have a soul about them. The aircraft still has that soul when it sleeps. With glass cockpits, the plane doesn’t sleep, the plane has been turned off.
You can keep your fancy GPS gear to yourself. I, like most people here – prefer the steam gauges any day of the week. 🙂

@docjeffry Its not that I think glass is bad or anything I just think as student pilots or VFR pilots in general we need to learn how to fly using vacuum gauges. And Plus a glass cockpit in cessna 172 is just overkill in my opinion.

Good video, thanks. 5 stars for GA, and the analogue cockpit. It makes me want to go fly right now.

i rate 5/5 not only for GA but for your 172, very nice. Keep taking care of it for me so I can buy it in a year or 2

same here. Don’t get me wrong the G1000 are great to use but i don’t like the fact u have an eletrical faliure or one of the screens are gone u lose a lot of infomration that u need. Espically if u are flying IFR

I love Cessnas. Own a 172 myself. Don’t I wish it had a glass cockpit. Couldn’t afford it. Like squabs217 our story is the same. But I did manage to find a older plane that I could keep. Just a thought. Don’t post the computer crap. It’s much better to see the real thing.

Analogue will always win. I cant wait for your G1000 to fail in the soup. I guess all you can do then is put one hand on one ear and one on the other and kiss your ass goodbye.

I clipped my own wings 10 years ago ( when learning my wife had our first bun in the oven ) . Is V.O.R. used at all anymore ?

Chances are you won’t be flying a citation when you get out. Yes there is oppurtonity to fly one over at ASI but if you did get hired by them you’ll be in their baron or king air.

your all lame! Anything with a G1000 is a god send and i i fly a 172 with the g1000 in it almost every day for flight school and i will be flying a citation when i am out.

    “5/5 stars for general aviation”
i know a that has an ex-military saab draken, that count?

My point about the point of having a glass panel or cockpit is: More money for the manufacturers like Garmin, but situational awareness and lots of information for the pilot. Not for getting ready to fly a Mustang! Come on. How many 172 pilots are going to move up to a Mustang.? I’ve been flying the C-182 w/G-1000 most recently. But the Mustang? Well, maybe I’ll move up to the Mustang (I fly the Flight 1 Mustang Sim now), but all the rest of the 172 jockies? No way! Ha.

  23. atvmaster281 on June 3rd, 2010 10:21 am

The whole point of having a glass cockpit. Is to get you prepaired for more complex airplane, such as the Citation Mustang which uses the same systems as the 172 G1000

  24. vidman520 on June 3rd, 2010 11:08 am

i flown the G1000 its not that its harder its just its like whats the point of having that much equipment like that the plane doesnt need that much! i mean the Cessna 172 is the most sold aircraft in the world and most of those numbers somewhere around 42,000 out of 45,000 im good with having my VOR needles and not a stupid GIANT GPS screen ill br honest ive flown with a 500 but i think the G1000 is just a giant waste of that extra 20,000

  25. atvmaster281 on June 3rd, 2010 11:29 am

    I am.. Why?

Got something to say?
