The second train is the notorious “Triple Penetrator” with leading unit BNSF 741, trailing units BNSF 5261, BNSF 4432, and BNSF 1107, mid-train DPUs BNSF 1013, BNSF 4392, and CSXT 7848, and rear helpers BNSF 4472 and EMDX 9053.

Raton, though, is a pretty ugly beast compared to Tehachapi. I’m pretty sure that they had to double over Z trains when they would re-route.

Honeslty its not ive seen trains in TeaCHAPi that have the same amount of power. Like i said they are added on the train when the Jouney is started,so there is no reason to add additional helpers. The grade threw Arizona only requires 5000 Hp max this train is crusing.

  16. BNSF757 on July 11th, 2010 7:20 pm

a few hills no real “Grade” to speak of…..

I’d be surprised to see them route this over Raton, it would probably have to be doubled-over.

  18. wn676 on July 11th, 2010 8:21 pm

Is there much in the way of grades down there?

the rPUS are sent with the tRain the whole way, start at the start of that trains start Because of Grades of nebraska/Techapi,Raton etc

Most likely just for the power, don’t know what the criteria is for splitting them up the way they do. I don’t see many mid-train DPUs on the Seligman Sub.

how come the have engines in the middle of the frieght is it just for more power for speed because i have seen many at the end also
