LAUSA GLIDING CLUB 2010 : lausa.co.uk Discus: Dan Harvey (Filming Aircraft) LS8-18: Tyler Bell To apply for membership, please email the club secretary: gliding@lausa.co.uk This video has been produced for the benefit of all members of the LAUSA GLIDING CLUB. Tyler Bell is a club member who is in the advanced stages of training having never flown a glider before. These sets of training videos are recorded on day 4 of his intensive flight training program. In the basic training phase, training is conducted via shared cockpit. At the advanced phase the training is conducted in a flight lead, wingman system during cross country flights normally around an hour flight time. Training not only covers flying the glider but also the basic principles of gliding. Tyler is currently working toward a LAUSA Basic Instructor certification and will be required to complete an hour flight test to strict limitations and demonstrate good decision making skills, field selection and approach as well as written examinations on metrology and general gliding operations. Details: The Discus is a Standard Class glider created by Schempp-Hirth. It was produced in Germany between 1984 and 1995 and around 850 aircraft are still flying. It is still produced in the Czech Republic in low numbers. With its distinctive swept back leading edge it was rather revolutionary when it was produced and it totally dominated the standard class sailplane racing throughout the 1980s and won the 1985, 1987 and 1989
