Kili Senegal Parrot – First Flight Ever For My Parrot

September 18, 2010

My Senegal Parrot Kili has been clipped since she was a baby and she still has not fully grown her flight feathers back. Since I’ve had such great success taking my bird out for a drive in the car, I decided that I will take her flying for the first time with me in an airplane. From the moment she got in the plane you couldn’t believe it was her first time. I was busy flying the plane, my girlfriend panicking, and the bird just sat preening like it was nothing. She’s a bird, flying doesn’t scare her 🙂 In fact, my parrot was so confident about the flying that she wanted to show me how it was done and flight train me a little. She couldn’t wait to get her feet on the controls. Who could possibly be a better flight instructor than a bird? At the end of the video you can see that I was busy landing the plane and my girlfriend was videoing. Not that I was nervous, but I was certainly preoccupied. Right through the landing, the bird just sat on my shoulder preening herself happily. All ends well and with a nice landing too. Here’s a video of my bird driving the car: www.youtube.com Here’s the article I wrote about taking my parrot flying: www.birdtricks.com I made a new extended version of this video with some extra footage from some more recent flights: www.youtube.com Check out my other bird training videos on my parrot’s channel: www.youtube.com Enjoy and happy flying.

Wouldent the altitude hurt kili’s ears or something???

@venturi117 I think even older. I think it was one of the first 172s with electric flaps. Now I’m flying a ’68 Piper Arrow 🙂

Is that one of the older 172’s, like ’70’s? (just asking because of the yoke) . Also nice parrot haha.

That bird is really funny. I’m now on my second wild pigeon (i’m also ppl; took 1 month to train) and for the last five months its been bliss. She lives in building next to office, and every day 5:30 am she is waiting at bus stop, flies direct to me, and goes with me to office door.
at 12 noon when i leave work, the minute I step outside, she flies to my hand. I feel like privileged every day, and she makes my day so happy. I also have 6 birds in the house flying free for 12 years, parakeets.

You should teach the birdie that “pull up! pull up!” noise that the plane says before you crash.

Awesome video. I love the bird and it’s great you take it around like that. I must admit, this video gave me a wonderful idea for the problem with my rehomed Meyer’s parrot occasionally deciding to give my ear a bite, lol.

Kili says that you need to let your flight feathers grow out more!

Very funny, though kili was saying, “Get the nose up, get the nose up!!! Good boy!” Don’t let kili get around cook too much otherwise you woulnd’t want ot take her flying with all the blabbering!
