The reasons to know both mags are working, are engine efficiency, and safety through redundancy. You look for a drop in RPM when you select either the right or left magneto. You also make sure the engine keeps running and that it doesn’t run rough or mis-fire. Now, when you actually turn the key to either the left or right magneto, you ground out the opposite magneto, which basically shuts it off, which in turn, shuts off the spark plugs for that magneto.

when we check the magnitos left and right what are we checking for , does that actually turn the spark plug off becuase the engine RPM drops on both left and right ?

Got something to say?
