Quickcut: HardWire SC-2 Valve Distortion – Les Paul

January 10, 2011

www.digitech.com A short edit from the longer clip which can be found at http If you’re looking for a versatile, tough, great sounding distortion pedal then you should consider the HardWire SC-2. It has two very useable modes and the tone controls are voiced beautifully. Highly recommended. In fact, I’ve been using it on my board lately and it’s been great.

ok… would this pedal give a good satch/petrucci lead tone?

@dart1971 Thanks! It’s no secret that I’m an old-school EVH fan and I had to think of something that would do this (mighty) pedal justice. Cheers.

@lute760 lets build a music hall right next to the mosque at ground zero and blast this pedal at them 24/7.

@FuzzySnuggz The short answer is yes, but only if the overdriven channel is not completely overdriven, saturated and therefore unable to take more gain without turning to compressed mush. Personally, I’d prefer a treble booster to an overdriven channel. That will really wake it up. These are designed more for clean channel applications.

If you put this pedal in front of a overdriven amp, would you get some good ball stomping metal tones from it? I’m looking for a pedal to replace my Boss SD-1.

  10. Dziger87 on January 10th, 2011 3:37 pm

    what amp did you use?

  11. Burgerman666 on January 10th, 2011 3:55 pm

@thepatman27 Sure. Back the gain off, turn the volume up, make sure your guitar is slung low and play all down strokes with serious attitude. There’s the recipe.

could you get a real punchy rock sound like a greenday or ramones sound out of this pedal?

@pureoffering7 I think this is a great pedal regardless of the price. It has great versatility and killer tones. Couldn’t ask for more.

  18. pureoffering7 on January 10th, 2011 7:47 pm

you think this is a good pedal… no? I really like it, and am really considering buying it… but the price of the distortion doesn’t quite matter to me so… anythign better that you would suggest? Somehting more “versatile?”

@jesusmyking1988 Just watched that shootout.. the mi audio sounded horrible compared to the others.. i do alot of rythem playing so a pedal has to be versatile.. the mi audio wasnt full and was way to focused in the mids.. oh well! i’ll try to demo the sc-2 sometime!! thanks man!

  20. Burgerman666 on January 10th, 2011 8:26 pm

@jesusmyking1988 Yeah, the Crunch Box is fantastic at what it does, but it is pretty much just the one sound, albeit a great one if that’s what you want. It’s a fabulous lead pedal because of its middy tendencies but if you have a look at my 7 string shootout you’ll hear that it doesn’t cut the bottom end as well as some of the others. The SC-2 has a broader range and two modes so it has to be more versatile, IMO. Plenty of gain on tap, too.

@Burgerman666 Thanks!! and if i may ask, you say more versatile? As in the crunch box is just i one trick pony?? I want it for joe satriani style stuff, i have the tl-2 and that rips its just more gain then what i want for a lead dist. box

@Phobia017 Thank you! You are too kind. Although I’m only as good as the pedal. 🙂

  24. Burgerman666 on January 10th, 2011 10:31 pm

@jesusmyking1988 Crunch Box or this? This. Much more versatile, IMO.

Absolutely flawless tone, Gorgeous when you switch to the neck pickups.

Got something to say?
