Meteor Crater

Meteor Crater is worth a look-see, although its relatively commercial (privately owned), and relatively expensive (considering its a ways out of the way (about 30 miles from Flagstaff Arizona). They have some quite fun exhibits and have clearly spent some money on it and there are elements that they have tried to maintain some integrity and not simply bleed it for as much money as possible. Saturday 18th July 2009-07-19 Woke up sluggishly with the dawn. Drove down the road for a mile or two but failed to locate the turn for the VLA. Uturn and back again, – found it this time. Got there about 7ish and had the place to myself. After some scratching around worked out how to get in the back of the vistors center. Meteor Crater, Flagstaff, AZ

Traveling along Route 66, just outside of Flagstaff, Arizona is one large hole in the ground — one of the largest craters left by a meteor. Its hard to imagine what it was like 50000 years ago as a 150-foot wide mass of iron and nickel came hurtling from space and slammed into this spot at 26000 miles per hour.
