Boarded by vast open space, greenery and a mere 35 miles from Denver, Boulder lies at the foot of Rocky Mountains.  It is famed for its raw splendour, hills and mountains, the advancement of the city and the amount of activities available throughout the city. To find the many attributes the city has to offer, the downtown area is the place to be. Boulder offers activities especially for the summer and then for the winter.

Many tourists come looking for an adventurous holiday with the many parks and trails available. The Boulder Creek Trail is a perfect place to go for a mountain bike ride, as it takes you through the downtown area and along the Boulder Creek, heading in the direction of the Four Mile Canyon. The Boulder Mountain Park is a merely 3 kilometres away and can be reached easily.  It is a place of serenity that offers you the untainted natural beauty of Mother Nature.  Hiking trails with native greenery are also available if you are keen on a hike while you are there.  The occasional opportunity of being able to see mountain lions and black bears make it a trip worth taking.

The Chautauqua Park is certainly the place to be during summer as it brings a huge crowd to witness the Boulder Symphony Orchestra who performs there on a regular basis. During the winter times, the park is a great place to sled.  There are hiking trails connected to the park that reaches places such as Gregory Canyon, Flagstaff Mountain and Bear Canyon.

The infamous University of Colorado declare rights to the Fiske Planetarium, where it holds a large collection of astronomical objects. The dome holds frequent star shows, laser shows, concerts and lectures given by professional space scientists which vary from week to week.  There is also an interactive museum that allows you to experience the journey of a spacecraft.

For those who visit with families, the Gateway Park Fun Centre gives you a chance to play  miniature golf in an eighteen-hole course, to go-kart on the longest track of it’s type in Colorado, to practice your baseball in batting cages and when you just want to stay still, a video arcade is also available.

Boulder also has placed its name amoung the Hollywood stars, by accommodating the setting for Stephen King’s novel The Stand (1978), where he even lived close to a year in 1974 and wrote his famous horror, The Shining (1977).  For the people who remember the old American sitcom Mork and Mindy (1978-1982), they will be glad to know that Mindy’s house actually is in Boulder and visits are encouraged.  The University of Colorado at Boulder appears in South Park on numerous occasions as the creators of the show were students of the university.

If you are looking to do some shopping on your holiday Pearl Street Mall is your best option.  It has a large number of shops and restaurants to satisfy every taste bud.  During the weekends and in summer, some live acts and small temporary stands selling local ware and knickknacks can be seen all through the mall. If your interest is in skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling, then winter is the best time for a visit. However, for summer visitors activities such hiking, rafting and mountain biking are available.
